I've never liked Waves plugins for some reason. Soundtoys, IK Multimedia, Klanghelm make great stuff too. They are often on par with UA in my opinion. But the GUIs are otherwise well designed and the plugins overall light on the CPU. You need to consider if you like the VMR workflow however. The Custom Series EQ is really nice as well as VTM.īut they have a very limited collection compared to UA as it is now so you will need to look elsewhere for certain things. I'd recommend to stay away from the FG-X however, never had a good experience with that one. Unfortunately the new chips won't do anything to adress this as far as I understand. Longer bounce times is probably the main drawback for me. The extra DSP has kept me from upgrading my computers however, so I've probably made up for that. I've spend on average $50/each on mine, about $100/each including the hardware costs. UAD plugins are not expensive if you buy wisely. Still great plugins without the Apollo, some of the best in the industry, but there are many good plugins on the market these days. That adds a very important function and a great workflow. But one of the keys for me is being able to use them with the Apollo. My UAD system is one of the best investments I've made in terms of audio gear, if not the best. You can even get a free EQ and get that "analog warmth." There are tons of plugs to give "analog warmth" but price varies from free to very expensive, and IMO there is a huge difference. Your pc is "very good" what does that mean? What are you after? EQ? Compression? Channel strips? Mastering? All of it? If you choose "all of it" there will be compromises.Īnd what kind of music are you working with? Jazz, classical? Pop, metal? I doubt anyone can give you an educated opinion because IMO you need to state your sonic objectives more clearly. Even if Slate had been around when I purchased the Waves Native Power Pack, or the first UAD, I'm not sure I would have purchased Slate. I have never bought into Slate simply because he was late to the game and Waves, UAD and other individual plugs cover my needs. My pc is very good but still try not to over do it on cpu usage.I have quite a bit of both Waves and UAD. Looking for a plugin pack that has good analogue warmth. Slate vmr interested me the most obviously because its price, and ive heard some good things about it. Ive heard a lot about all three of these.

I want to spend some coin on a solid set of plug ins. I know there are at least one or two of these topics but id like to compare these three directly.
